The 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment was the first regiment offering to fight for the Union army.


They achieved unparalleled recognition when in July 1863 the 1st stopped a Confederate assault at Gettysburg.
Without their sacrifices Gettysburg could have been a Confederate Victory, perhaps changing the course of the war.
